ZDR’s mission is to contribute to the success of our clients by providing innovative, cost effective and expeditious product design and development solutions.
ZDR was founded in 1992 by Paul Zwirkoski after building a successful career working in various engineering positions for major orthopedic companies including Dow Corning Wright, Smith & Nephew Richards and Stryker. During his tenure at these companies Mr. Zwirkoski acquired extensive experience working with leading surgeons to develop effective implant and instrument systems. He also spearheaded many major programs involving proprietary custom knee and hip implants and instrumentation. Mr. Zwirkoski has an impressive patent portfolio with many more pending in diverse specialty areas including total joint arthroplasty, trauma and spinal repair.
It was during his early experience that Mr. Zwirkoski was able to identify an industry weakness that existed in the way that surgeon's needs were being addressed. He noticed that valuable surgeon input regarding medical devices, instrumentation and procedures was not being leveraged nor appropriately considered within the instrinsic bureaucratic inefficiencies of the big medical device business model. Mr. Zwirkoski realized the importance and feasibility of making available an independent design and development resource that could fill this unmet need, and thus ZDR was born.
Throughout his career, Mr. Zwirkoski has proven to be an inventive and novel thinker with a passion for his career and contributing to society through the development of better, more effective technologies to improve the standard of care in the medical industry.
